A 15-year-old girl who was raped and set on fire in a horror attack has died.
The schoolgirl had been undergoing treatment after she was left with burns over 95% of her body but died in hospital today.
A 20-year-old man was charged with several offences including rape and attempted murder after the attack in Greater Noida near Delhi on Tuesday.
State police spokesman Yadram Singh confirmed that she died early on Wednesday.
He added that the attempted murder charge will be changed to murder.
The girl’s family said the man had been stalking her for several months.
Her father had filed a police complaint against the man and police issued a warning to him last year.
Officer Rakesh Yadav told BBC Hindi he suspected the pair were involved in a “love triangle” but added further investigations were underway.
