Real Madrid will intensify their pursuit of Chelsea star Eden Hazard following the appointment of new coach Zinedine Zidane.

The London Evening Standard says Real will step up their attempts to sign Hazard in the summer.

Zidane was put in charge at the Bernabeu last night following president Florentino Perez’s decision to bring Rafael Benitez’s seven-month reign to an end.

Real Madrid have been huge admirers of Hazard for several years and were interested in buying him when he joined Chelsea from Lille for £32m in 2012.

The 24-year-old has always cited Zidane as his biggest idol in the game and admitted to dreaming of playing for Real Madrid earlier in his career.

Chelsea agreed a new five-year contract worth £200,000-a-week with Hazard only 10 months ago in a bid to secure his long-term future and ease the threat posed by Real Madrid.
