The wife of the governor of Ogun state, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun has been credited with discovering the talented Golden Eaglets goalie, Akpan Udoh.
According to the Sun, Mrs Amosun’s UPLIFT football academy trained Udoh to become the talent he is today.
The academy sponsored 22 young players on soccer training to the Udinese football club in Italy following a talent hunt in 2013. The talent hunt programme called ‘UPLIFTing Under-15 Grassroot Football Talent-hunt’ was organised Mrs Amosun during the 2013 Easter holiday amongst all public secondary school students in Ogun State.
Luminaries in attendance include Mr. Jim Colston, a renowned scout in England and ex-Super Eagles, Chief Olusegun Odegbami and football ambassador, Mr. John Fashanu.
The selected players from the talent hunt were sent to Udinese to horn their skills during a two-week training camp.
Akpan Udoh was discovered while still a student of Akesan Community High School in Iperu Remo in Ogun State. He was born in July 1999.
Udoh has helped Nigeria to six points from two games in the on-going U-17 world cup in Chile. The Golden Eaglets top group A annd havve already qualified for the knock-out stages with one game in hand.
