Cristiano Ronaldo never even convincingly pretended to have a good relationship with Rafael Benitez during the Newcastle boss’ short spell as Real Madrid manager.
And since the departure of the Spaniard, more details have filtered through about the events that made things so tense between the two.
El País reports that, in the early days of Benitez’s Madrid tenure, the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager sent one of his coaches to Ronaldo with a USB pen drive that showed a host of images and videos that he could study in order to help him better lose his marker.
The Portugal captain didn’t take too kindly to this sort of instruction, however, and not only did he decline the kind gift brought to him, but he returned it with a message:
“Tell Benitez that I’ll send him a USB drive with all my goals on it for him to study.”
