Barcelona scoring machine Neymar is coming off a Ballon d’Or nomination and has over 80 goals for the La Liga giants since joining the club in 2013. However, despite being one of the world’s greatest footballers, Neymar’s wages seem very average.
In a document revealed by FootballLeaks [per the Telegraph], a copy of Neymar’s Barcelona contract revealed that the Brazilian forward is making just £77,000-a-week – a fraction of the money earned by his contemporaries Lionel Messi (£275k-a-week) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£288k-a-week). Even Man United striker Wayne Rooney makes more than three times what Neymar earns, taking in £250,000-a-week.
According to the terms of the 13-page contract, Neymar is set to earn £39.7 million in wages over the five-year life of the deal he signed in 2013. There are, of course, a variety of bonuses he can accrue for performance.
The contract also confirmed that Neymar has a release clause of £152 million – a number Man United and PSG have had an interest in paying.
