Juan Mata and Daley Blind have worked their way into Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho’s new season plans.

The Daily Record says they will remain part of Mourinho’s United first-team squad this season after impressing in training and the Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

Mourinho had previously earmarked the pair as dispensable as the Portuguese attempted to overhaul the squad he inherited, but has now changed his mind.

Mata and Blind were grouped with Bastian Schweinsteiger – who has been banished from first team training – and Marcos Rojo though their Manchester United futures appear less bright.

With the transfer window set to close in a few weeks, United have struggled to move the older members of the squad on due to an unwillingness from star players to move on and join a lesser club.
