Rafa Benitez has dismissed Sam Allardyce’s views as being “of little value” after being savaged by the Sunderland boss this week.
Allardyce claimed in ‘Big Sam, The Autobiography’ that Liverpool’s incredible recovery from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan Champions League final was “nowt to do with [Benitez]”.
Instead Allardyce claimed, the victory was down to then-captain Steven Gerrard .
But Benitez hit back: “Allardyce is what happens when you get a book in England… his opinion has little value.”
Speaking to Spanish radio station Al Primer Toque, Benitez added: “How many titles has Allardyce won? That tells you all.”
Benitez has also claimed he tried to sign Gareth Bale during his time as Liverpool boss.
The Spaniard insists there is evidence to prove that he monitored the progress of the Wales superstar while he was a left-back was at Southampton.
Benitez denied a claim from Reds legend Jamie Carragher that he preferred John Arne Riise whom he already had at the club.
He said: “Carragher has made the mistake of saying I chose to stick with Riise instead of Bale. It wasn’t the case.”
