The Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that he has fallen out with captain John Terry following the Champions slow start to the EPL season.
Mourinho left Terry on the bench for Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in their Champions League opener at Stamford Bridge and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes that the manager is in a dispute with his axed captain.
Gerrard who suspects that tension is rising between the two, told BT Sport: “There’s certainly a bit of friction behind the scenes.
“For me, you play John Terry week-in, week-out because he’s your captain and such an important figure in the dressing room.
“I think if Chelsea want to be successful this season, I think they need John Terry in there.”
But Mourinho was quick to deny any such talk of problems.
He said: “I like Steven [Gerrard]. I share SMS [text messages] with him. But he’s wrong, [there are] no problems at all.”
Chelsea has been able to pick up just 4 points after 5 games.
The Champions currently sits in the 17th position in the Premier League and they host Arsenal on Saturday, September 19.
