Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has surprisingly denied the club’s interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, reports the London Evening Standard.
Numerous reports claim that the Reds are closing in on the signature of the Belgian international, with the likes of the BBC Sport suggesting the forward’s set to have a medical with the club imminently.
Rodgers, though, after watching his side secure a comfortable 2-0 victory over Adelaide United last night, has insisted that he’s not aware of any deal for the hitman.
In fact, the Liverpool boss reacted rather strangely when asked about the prospect of Benteke signing for the club, as he twice told the reporter that he didn’t know what she was talking about.
When asked where the club were up to on the Benteke negotiations, Rodgers responded by saying: “Er, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
There’s no doubt about it, with the transfer seemingly almost complete, Rodgers’ response to the Benteke question may well confuse fans, who will be hoping the club improve in attack after last season’s struggles.
