Lionel Messi has become Argentina’s all-time top goalscorer, surpassing Gabriel Batistuta’s record with a sumptuous free-kick goal during the Albiceleste’s destruction of the USA.

The Barcelona star curled in a barely-credible set-piece effort to double Argentina’s lead and send them to a second Copa America final in 12 months.

The striker netted his 55th goal, overtaking Batistuta’s record of 54 goals in 78 appearances.

Gerardo Martino’s men are now overwhelming favourites for the crown, but the glory belongs to the incredible Messi, who is now the top goalscorer in the history of La Liga, Barcelona, Clásicos and the Argentine national team. Watch the video below…
