It was a battle of the world class managers at the Allianz Arena, as Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone went head-to-head in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
Each have distinctly different styles, both in person and in their team’s playing style, but going into the game, there was one very good reason that Pep should’ve extra wary of his Argentinian counterpart.
Atleti were 1-0 up after a first leg home victory, so Bayern had it all to do – but one particular stat revealed they may as well not bothered even turning up, as the result was more or less inevitable.
Going into the fixture, Atletico Madrid had played 53 games so far this season; none of the scorelines in those games would have knocked them out against Bayern if repeated. Of those, only TWO would send the game to extra time.
Of course, Atletico’s away goal saw them through and the run goes. Amazing, eh?
