Having recently become La Liga’s highest-scoring Brit ever, passing Gary Lineker’s record set at Barcelona, Gareth Bale reached another milestone this afternoon.

In racing behind the Getafe defence on 50 minutes, opening up his body and sliding in a left-footed finish, Bale reached 16 La Liga goals for the season – his best total yet as a Madrid player.

To have done so despite spending so much time out injured is a testament to how good his performances have been when he’s fit, and all talk of the Welshman leaving the Bernabeu has evaporated.

The ‘BBC’ have now scored 68 La Liga goals in the current campaign which leaves them just one behind the ‘MSN’ down in Barcelona.
