Chelsea plotting to lure Jose Gimenez from Atletico Madrid

Chelsea are seriously considering a move for Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.

According to the London Evening Standard, the Blues are determined to sign a quality centre-back this month and could make a late move for the 21-year-olds.

Chelsea were reportedly keen on the Uruguay international in the summer before they went after John Stones but in the end, they eventually signed Papy Djilobodji, who has since joined Werder Bremen on loan.

Gimenez has been a key player for Diego Simeone this season and recently signed a new contract that will see him remain at the Vicente Calderon until the summer of 2018.

But the Blues see him as a potential world class central defender and are being linked with a winter move as they prepare to lose Gary Cahill who is seeking a West London exit ahead of Euro2016.
