According to reports, Chelsea are set to be offered a MASSIVE £72m from China to sell Diego Costa this summer which is a blow to Antonio Conte who wants to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
This is of course in addition to reports that Atletico Madrid want to take him back to the Spanish Capital and rumours that the Spanish striker has his heart set on a move. This deal from the Far East with reports that TWO clubs would be prepared to pay that figure to try and sign him would literally blow Atletico and anyone else out of the water!
The player himself may not be too keen on a move over there but with the potential to virtually double his £4m a season salary, he could decide to do what Ramires and plenty of others have done and take the money to ensure financial security first and foremost for a few years, to then come back to Europe!
It really is a staggering amount of money and a figure that I believe Chelsea could not afford to turn down based on what has happened to our season. With no Champions League money coming in and a possible exodus of our top players, Chelsea need a re-invest in the squad this summer and the money could become a welcome addition as let’s not forget, we need to abide by Financial Fair Play rules.
Antonio Conte wants to keep Costa here and had instructed the club to do all they could to keep him here next season so he could build a new team around him. Now, I would not be surprised if his opinion has been overruled if an offer of £72m did actually arrive!
What would you do for that amount of money and who would you replace him with?
