Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has questioned the spending of Premier League clubs.

In England, it’s been a season where Manchester City and Liverpool are the only remaining English representatives in European competition, Leicester City have shocked the Premier League and perennial challengers Manchester United andChelsea have both been well off the pace.

“The English teams have a lot of money and good players, but it’s important that you don’t just focus on being number one in England,” said Neuer to BT Sport.

“You also have to keep an eye on the other teams in Europe and look whatBarcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern München, Dortmund as well as Juventus do and compare yourself to these clubs – It’s not about looking for and getting the best player in the world and thinking that it will all work out.

“You need to have a certain structure, five or six English players who identify with and know the club very well, don’t change the club and the character of the team every year.”
