Arsenal have completed the signing Mohamed Elneny from Swiss side Basel.

The 23-year-old midfielder – who has been capped 39 times by Egypt – is thought to have cost around £5million, and will take home £60,000-a-week in wages.

Mirror Sport exclusively revealed he would be joining the Gunners as far back as Boxing Day, and the deal has now gone through.

Elneny has been brought in to provide competition and cover for holding midfielder Francis Coquelin, although he can also operate slightly further forward.

The former Al Ahly man has firmly established himself at Basel during his three seasons at the club, picking up three Swiss Super League titles along the way.

This deal is almost certainly the only first team signing Arsenal will do in January, with Arsene Wenger preferring to wait until the summer to secure his other major targets.

Thanks Allah for everything @arsenal ??
