Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists they could’ve beaten Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Gunners were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate by the Spanish giants after a 3-1 loss in the Nou Camp.

When asked if Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are now uncatchable, Wenger insisted: “They are not, and the regret I have about the two games against Barcelona is maybe they were more beatable than ever before.

“When we played against them, they are not so much out of reach.

“But I must say on the other hand as well, Messi is Messi. Neymar is Neymar. They play in Barcelona.

“Did we miss them? Yes. But we tried to get Messi, we couldn’t.

“I believe that with more income in England the best players will slowly all come to England and that will be the answer. Barca and Real have already dropped off.

“For years we were in England always in the last (stages), sometimes you played an English team in the quarter-final and the semi-final of the Champions League. I believe we’ll come back again.”
