The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning to blackmail former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The party said the plan which is being executed by top leaders of the PDP is to portray the former governors as corrupt.
The state APC alleged that the Governor Nyesom Wike’s men had reached out to some people within and outside of the state “to initiate, formulate and contrive a false damaging report bordering on alleged corruption by Amaechi and circulate same to individuals and institutions in Nigeria and abroad to damage the incorruptible character and rising profile of Amaechi to blackmail and put pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari not to appoint the former governor into his government.”
“The international community and especially the Nigerian public know that Amaechi is one of the most forthright, transparent and honest leaders in the country today,” the party’s spokesperson Chris Finebone said in a statement.
PDP’s State Publicity Secretary Samuel Nwanosike has however described the state opposition party as a party of propaganda. He urged the public to ignore the party’s recent alarm.
