Six people have reportedly been killed on Sunday, January 10, following the celebration of electoral victory by Governor Seriake Dickson and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Leadership, the six people were reportedly shot dead in a post-election gun battle between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP in Peremabiri community of Southern Ijaw area of Bayelsa.
Asimin Butswat, the spokesman of the State Police Command, confirmed that the police had received the report of violence in the area, but could not confirm the number of casualties.
The state commissioner of police, Peter Ogunyanwo, had earlier issued a statement appealing to supporters of the various political parties to celebrate their victories in utmost modesty.
In a related development the paramount ruler of Peremabiri community in Southern Ijaw local government, Progress Neverdie, popularly known as ”progress never die’‘ was shot by unknown gunmen, on Saunday, January 10.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency in Bayelsa state, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, has sent a congratulatory message to Governor Seriake Dickson over his re-election as governor of Bayelsa state.
In his congratulatory message on Twitter, Bruce said: “Congratulations @iamHSDickson. Those who got there through free and fair elections could not use #DoOrDieElections to remove you!”
