A married couple who have an open relationship say their se x lives make them better parents .
Gracie and Oz from Oakland, California, believe that their openness and honesty about their marriage helps them communicate with their children and bring them closer together.
The Pilates teacher and writer, who is mum to 16-year-old Tallulah and 11-year-old Merlin, explained her reasons to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during an interview on This Morning .
Asked why it makes her a better mother Gracie, who was previously married to Hank before getting together with Oz, said: “When I was in love with Hank and then in love Oz and we created this family together I was so proud of what I role modelled to my kids.”
Gracie continued about her ‘ethical non-monogamy’ lifestyle: “I role modelled that you can be in a long-term relationship, a loving relationship and your needs can change and you can openly and honestly get what you need.
“You can talk to people and communicate. Polyamorous people have spent a lot of time studying communication and boundaries and those are all really good things with parenting.”
The 48-year-old also said in a previous interview : “Anything that keeps me happy and gives me energy makes me a better mother.
“If my kids asked me to stop being polyamorous I wouldn’t. I could not stop being who I am, I could not stop living the lifestyle that is me.”
Gracie opened her marriage with her first husband, Hank, six years ago and the couple invited a man called Oz and his two children to live with them and their children in a duplex.
Hank took on a girlfriend, Valerie, who also moved into the family home.
Initially Gracie had se x with both her ex-husband and Oz and the four adults and their children lived together for four years.
Eventually Gracie grew closer to Oz and Hank grew closer to Valerie and the couples went their separate ways.
