A 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Ayelangbe, has been accused of biting off the ear of a police officer in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
According to a Vanguard report, Ayelangbe had been trying to jump the fence into a private residence at No. 21, Temple Road, Ikoyi at about 3am, when he was accosted by the police officer, Ebere Nwogidi and his colleague Omede Isaiah.
A scuffle ensued as he allegedly tried to escape from the policemen and he bit off the left ear of Nwogidi.
Ayelangbe is facing a three-count charge of unlawful entry and grievous assault.
When arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Addressing the court, the police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, said the offences contravened Sections 172, 243 and 306 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011.
In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs Oluwadamilola Olanipekun, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody following his guilty plea.
The case was adjourned to October 2 for hearing and verdict.
