A police officer has been detained for allegedly stabbing a teacher to death with a machete in New Jersey.
The former officer attempted to kill himself by jumping in front of a moving train after the attack.
According to Midland Park police the 44-year-old man identified as Arthur Lomando used the machete to stab 48-year-old Suzanne Bardzell, as she was sitting in her car in front of her home.
Lamondo who was an employee of the New York Police Department for 10 years, smashed the window of her car and stabbed her several times while she was in the car which was parked in the driveway.
Lomando then fled and jumped in front of a train in Manhattan after which he suffered serious injuries to his head and legs, and was taken to Harlem Hospital.
Bardzell dated Lomando for three years after meeting on the internet. Things turned sour between them and she filed for a restraining order, which he violated.
Bardzell left behind two teenage children, ages 18 and 16.
