Drycleaner Docked Over Theft Of Clothes Worth N1.7m


A 38-year-old dry-cleaner, Olugbemi Oruwole, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing 109 pieces of clothes valued at N1.7 million from a customer. Oruwole, was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing.

While testifying before the court, the police Prosecutor, Insp. Okete Ejime, said Oruwole committed the offence in August 2014 at Block E9, Plot 7, Otunba Steve Ajose Drive, Ilasan area of Lekki in Lagos.

Ejime noted that the accused stole 109 pieces of clothes worth N1.7 million belonging to Novetta Louis.

He said the offence was contrary to Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.

Oruwole however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the accused, Mr S. A. Owhorayle, however asked the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.

Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adefulire, consequently granted Oruwole bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate further noted that the sureties must be gainfully employed with a bank account, noting that the bank statement must be signed by the bank manager.

Adefulire however adjourned the case till May 4.
