Former Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse has reportedly been placed in custody by French police in relation to an alleged blackmail attempt on France star Mathieu Valbuena.
According to French newspaper Le Figaro , Cisse is one of four people to have been questioned in connection with the case.
But sources ‘close to the inquiry’ quoted by the paper insist the 34-year-old is “cooperating in good faith and should soon be ruled out of the case”.
The three other suspects were arrested in Bouches-du-Rhone, in the south of France, and l’Oise, near Paris.
It is claimed the three men were behind an attempt to blackmail Valbuena, claiming to be in possession of a sextape involving the Lyon midfielder.
Cisse played for Liverpool, Sunderland and QPR and won 41 caps for France between 2002-2011. He played for Bastia in Ligue 1 last season and played alongside Valbuena for France and Marseille. Last month he left Reunion Island side JS Saint-Pierroise because he was suffering from injury.
The Frenchman has branded his former wife Jude “a disgrace” after she appeared on Channel 5’s Britain’s Flashiest Families last week.
