Abuja – Two elderly women have allegedly lost their lives following a violent struggle over Ramadan gifts distributed on behalf of former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a Naij report, each person was given an gift pack containing essential foodstuffs as well as N1,500 at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos State.

A large number of people are said to have converged at the stadium in time to receive the presents, following which residents began loosing patience over the handing out of the gifts after standing in queues for several hours.

A stampede eventually ensued with the two women dying in the process.

Area boys reportedly took the opportunity to steal goods from those waiting in queues, with an eye witness revealing that hoodlums broke into the crowd to steal phones and cause chaos during the event, Sahara Reporters has confirmed.

Michael Akindele, general manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has since dismissed the report of deaths during the event, claiming that no report of such had been given to the organization.
