Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has urged the international community to support Nigeria’s counter terrorism efforts, saying that “victory over terrorism in Nigeria is victory for everyone”.
President Buhari made the call at a breakfast meeting he held with members of the Diplomatic Corp in the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
He restated that all the counter-terrorism efforts of his administration were within the framework of human rights obligations which Nigeria subscribed to locally and internationally.
The President said he was delighted to mark the important religious obligation with the diplomats, thanking all those who supported him during the elections and the goodwill he received from various countries.
According to President Buhari, “Nigeria is ready to play the leadership role expected of her on the African continent and beyond and that is why it is taken the steps to tackle insurgency”.
In further efforts to strengthen the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists through international community’s support, President Buhari is scheduled to meet with the American President, Barack Obama, on Monday.
Both leaders will hold discussions on measures that will strengthen and intensify bilateral and international cooperation against terrorism in Nigeria and West-Africa.
President Buhari, during the four-day official visit, would also hold talks with other senior officials of the United States government.
