THE NIGERIAN SENATE HAS REFUSED TO PASS THE GENDER AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY BILL.

The bill, which sought to implement appropriate measures against gender discrimination in political and public life, was debated on the Senate floor today, March 15, 2016.

It however failed to pass the second reading.

“Senate President now puts the Bill to Vote and the Nays have. The Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill does not pass second reading,” the Senate wrote via its official Twitter account.

The Senators who opposed the bill include Adamu Aliero of Kebbi State and Emmanuel Bwacha of Taraba State.
