The former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo had to move to the backup vehicle after one of the tyres of the vehicle he was traveling in burst. The accident occured on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to the statement issued on the official Facebook page of the Federal Road  Safety Commission, Obasanjo’s life was not in danger and he sustained no injuries, only changing the vehicles and leaving the scene after the incident.

According to Vanguard, the former Nigerian leader and prominent politician was reportedly heading to the church service dedicated to to mark the 80th birthday of Kessington Adebutu, a businessman, having left Abuja where he attended 10th memorial of his wife Stella.

Eyewitnesses report that one of the rear tyres of the Jeep Obasanjo was in burst near the Sagamu interchange. The anonymous sources also suggest Obasanjo was accompanied by Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, another businessman.

Sahara Reporters say Obasanjo has since arrived Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to participate in election monitoring activities scheduled for tomorrow.

A number of Nigerian news portals have presented the news as Olusegun Obasanjo escaping death by whiskers and being injured; however, the officials have debunked such rumours and say the ex-president’s life and health were not affected.
