A firefighter raped a nine-year-old girl hours after he had rescued her from an inferno in her house in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, UK.
John McGinn, 56, who saved the girl from a fire, raped her and threatened to kill her mother if she told anyone about the abuse.
The incident took place in 1994 and only two decades after the 30-year-old woman plucked up courage to reveal her ordeal.
According to the victim, she was raped in her grandmother’s home, when her mother was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
While in police station the retired firefighter said: “It’s a downright lie – it did not happen. No chance.
For her to come out with that is ridiculous. I would rather put a bullet in my own head than be a paedophile. Hanging is too good for a paedophile.”
He added that earlier the woman tried to blackmail him and the rape allegation is actually a payback for his refusal to give her money.
However, the court found him guilty of six charges, including rape. McGinn will be sentenced later this month.
Besides, the court heard he also repeatedly raped and beat his partner, who testified against him.
