The Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Tukur Buratai, is reportedly considering establishing a special Army unit which will be located in Boko Haram’s major enclave – Sambisa Forest.
The special Army unit will be tasked with the responsibility of flushing out the members of the terror group from the forest.
Sambisa Forest is said to be Boko Haram’s operational base.
However, the new Army boss is said to be determined to flush out the terrorists from the forest in order to disrupt their plans of having an operational base from which further terror attacks can be planned, especially in the Lake Chad Basin area.
Sambisa Forest is huge, and according to a source, the new brigade will be tasked with dealing with the insurgents in the area.
“The new Chief is planning a new brigade in the mission area. The brigade is to be called 29th Special operations Brigade under the 7th division of the Nigerian Army.
“You know that the Sambisa Forest is very vast and they are still staging their attacks from the forest. What the Chief wants to do is to establish the brigade in the forest and take the fight to them.
“The brigade will be there permanently to go after the insurgents, destroy their stronghold and restore sanity in the area. The troops are very excited about the idea,” the source said.
