Outspoken rapper Kanye West went to town on Wiz Khalifa in an epic Twitter rant on Wednesday after the star mocked him for changing the name of his new album.
It all started when the Black Skinhead star announced he was switching from the title Swish to Waves yesterday as he shared the tracklisting on Twitter.
Wiz made the point that US hip hop artist Max B was the brains behind the ‘wavy movement’ with his lo-fi rap tunes in the mid-2000s.
Once Kanye got wind of what Wiz had been saying, he fired back and had the most incredible meltdown on the social media site.
He began to blast the star, posting: “Oh n***as must think I’m not petty cause I’m the best that’s ever made music.
“Like, oh that’s Ye and I can put his wife’s initials on my twitter @ Wizkhalifa.
“Bro first of all you stole your whole s**t from Cudi. Second, your first single was corny as f*** and most there after.”
But he didn’t stop there. He made a list of ’17 points’ in which he mocked former stripper Amber Rose, who they have both dated, claiming she ‘trapped him’ by having Wiz’s child.
After he ended things with Amber, he told Wiz: “You wouldn’t have a child if it wasn’t for me,” adding: “You own waves???? I own your child!!!!”
But it was Amber who had the last laugh when she fired back at Kanye with a totally NSFW tweet about their past sex life.
Obviously the rapper’s not the only celeb to get involved in a war of words, so in honour of his epic rant here’s a look at some of the best Twitter spats – plus the amazing comebacks.
Zayn Malik V Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris and Zayn Malik engaged in a war of words which captured the attention of the music industry in August.
So far, everyone from Zayn’s former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson to Nicki Minaj have had their say on the rivalry – but what’s it all about?
Seemingly out of nowhere, the two stars clashed on Twitter and it got heated very quickly.
It all started as Zayn appeared to hit out at the Scottish DJ’s girlfriend Taylor Swiftwith a retweet comparing her views on the music industry to a contrasting quote from Miley Cyrus.
See a complete run down of the fight here.
Nicki Minaj V Taylor Swift
In July, MTV announced the nominations for the Video Music Awards.
Taylor Swift led the noms with a whopping nine Moonmen nominations, but while she should have been spending the evening celebrating, she instead found herselfembroiled in a bitter Twitter row with Nicki Minaj – but why?
Nicki took umbrage with the fact she was not up for the prestigious Video Of The Year award.
Shortly after the news was announced a disappointed Nicki tweeted: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
While she didn’t directly mention Taylor in her message, the pop star clearly felt it was directed at her.
So not holding back Taylor tweeted AT Nicki: “@NickiMinaj I’ve done nothing but love and support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…”:
They later made up, with Nicki taking to the stage at the event WITH Taylor.
See their full row here.
James Blunt – the KING of comebacks
James Blunt might spout mild and romantic lyrics in his songs, but when it comes to Twitter, James’ creative offerings are very different.
The posh singer slammed Shadow Minister for the Arts Chris Bryant for saying it was easier for people from privileged backgrounds to succeed in the arts back in January 2015.
Mr Bryant had said more must be done to ensure Harrow-schooled Blunt, Eton-educated actor Eddie Redmayne “and their ilk” do not continue to dominate the arts.
In a scathing open letter, Blunt said: “Dear Chris Bryant MP, You classist gimp. I happened to go to a boarding school. No one helped me at boarding school to get into the music business. I bought my first guitar with money I saved from holiday jobs (sandwich packing!).”
Which made us LOL a lot.
So see all his best comebacks ever here.
Lily Allen V Katie Hopkins
As loathed as we are to give column inches to Nasty Knickers Katie Hopkins, it’s a must this time because she finally got the smackdown she needed from Lily Allen way back when.
After slagging the singer off for having a famous dad and putting on weight and when she was pregnant, talented mum-of-two Lily hit back in style.
She tweeted: “Yes, after tragically losing a child so late in to my pregnancy I may have gained a few pounds, I am one of many that find comfort in food. The two pregnancies that followed were terrifying because of what had happened before and I was pretty much on bed rest for 20 months.
“I wasn’t exercising because I didn’t want to take any risks and funnily enough, the survival of my children felt more important than being thin.
“Can somebody tell me what Katie Hopkins does except go on telly slagging off girls half her age?”
Well said Lily!
Tulisa V Lord Sugar
It’s an unlikely rivalry – chav popster Tulisa versus ageing grouch Lord Sugar. And believe it or not, Sugar started it by daring to admit he didn’t know who she was.
The Apprentice boss tweeted his 2.2m followers: “Can you tell me who the hell this Tulisa bird is – what has she done?”
And as if that wasn’t a low enough blow, he told Simon Cowell to sack her from X Factor because she “knows nothing and talks rubbish.”
Never one to take an insult on the chin, sweet-natured Tulisa sniped: “U look like an ugly hobbit. Stop tweeting me & go & find some happiness! It’s embarrassing u miserable old man.”
Denise Van Outen V Natalie Cassidy
It was mummies at war when Natalie Cassidy and DVO scrapped over when was the right time to go back to work after giving birth.
Nat kicked it off with: “Denise Van Outen went back to work after two weeks because she said she needed to feel normal again. I just think, what have you had a child for? Having a child should be your job.”
OK then Natalie, way to big up the sisterhood.
Denise came back with her classic Sonya-themed threat: “She can stick her trumpet where the sun don’t shine.”
And back and forth it went, until DVO got her glory moment when Natalie took her baby on telly and she got to gloat: “Hypocrite!”
Miley Cyrus V Sinead O’Connor
Short hair aside, what do these two have in common? Ah yes, loving a bit of controversy. So how then, can these two kindred spirits have come to blows?
Caring Irish songstress Sinead was worried about young Miley going off the rails, what with all her half-naked twerking, and sticking her tongue out all the time.
So she wrote her a letter saying: “They will prostitute you for all you’re worth and cleverly make you think it’s what YOU wanted.”
Ever-so-grateful Miley replied on Twitter: “I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause I’m hosting & performing on SNL this week.” Ouch.
South Park even spoofed this embarrassing exchange.
Jeremy Clarkson V Piers Morgan
What did argumentative blokes like this pair do before Twitter? No longer content with just slagging each other off to their mates, Jeremy and Piers decided to get personal – publicly.
And this is just one time in many.
Who knows what sparked things off, but Jeremy got things going with this subtle comment under a picture of the talk show host: “What a monumental t*** this man is.” Friendly.
And Piers responded: “Being called a ‘monumental t***’ by a pot-bellied pig @JeremyClarkson who wants nurses executed is the purest definition of irony.”
Kelly Osbourne V Lady Gaga
This long-running feud kicked off in 2009 when Kelly criticised Lady Gaga for skipping the red carpet at the Grammys. Low blow Kelly!
And again, she stuck the knife in when she told Alan Carr she thought the singer was pregnant after she wore a burkha-style ensemble.
Lady Gaga’s little monsters launched online warfare of slimmed-down Kelly, who then called her old pal a “big hypocrite.”
Ma Osbourne made things even worse when she called Lady Gaga “nothing more than a publicity seeking hypocrite and attention seeker.”
But fret not, the white flag went up when Lady Gaga gave Sharon a cake last year… and a gradual thaw has been working up ever since.
Cheryl V Cher Lloyd
Cheekyboots Cher got a bit uppity when she said her X Factor inspiration and mentor Cheryl relied on Auto-Tune during live performances.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t go down well. The Geordie matriarch blasted back: “Be careful who you kick on your way up.. They kick you twice as hard on your way back down..”
Zayn Malik V Max George
A boy band face off?! Don’t mind if we do!
Angel-faced Zayn rubbed Michelle Keegan’s ex up the wrong way when he called him ‘Chlamydia boy.’
God knows what he was getting at, but Max didn’t like it. He sniped back: “The only problem I have with you is the s*** banter. Grow up son.”
The Wanted’s Tom Parker piped up, telling Max: “I think ‘1 stripes’ got his knickers in a twist bro.”
But the winning put down went to gorgeous (and he knows it) Zayn: “Mate if I had a face like yours my hair would be the last thing I’d worry about.”
Frankie Boyle V James Arthur
When sharp-tongued meanie Frankie Boyle set his sights on James Arthur, calling him a “tramp”, a bitter feud erupted.
The singer responded: “Poor old man making yet more s*** jokes about X Factor because he knows that’s the only way he can get attention anymore #prat.”
Comedian Frankie fired back: “I think if I wanted attention I’d sing covers on a talent show, inked up like a schooldesk in a remedial class.”
Back and forth it went until Frankie Boyle, Twitter nasty extraordinaire, SOMEHOW ended up with the moral high ground when James stupidly did a homophobic rap.
Jon Hamm V Kim Kardashian
One’s a talented, clever, funny actor, and the other has made a whole empire out ofjust being, well, herself. So who’s smarter? It’s a toughie…
Handsome Mad Men star Jon said: “Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being [an] idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly.”
But Kim was having none of it and calmly tweeted her followers: “I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life.”
Well spotted Kim.
She added: “Calling someone who runs their own business, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, “stupid”, is in my opinion careless.” Word.
