Anton Yelchin dead at 27 after Star Trek star is involved in car crash

Anton Yelchin has passed away aged 27.

The actor, best known for his roles in Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett and Alpha Dog, was involved in a car accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Confirming the sad news, his publicist Jennifer Allen said in a statement to Mirror Celeb: “Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning. His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”

According to TMZ, his friends became alarmed after he didn’t turn up for a rehearsal.

They visited his San Fernando Valley home around 1am to check on him and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox which was attached to a security gate.

Police, who do not suspect foul play, said his driveway was on a steep incline.

Anton played Pavel Chekov in the reboot of the classic sci-fi series, with the latest film – Star Trek Beyond- scheduled for release next month.

He was currently working on a number of projects, including a TV series called Mr Mercedes.

Other acting credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law & Order, Terminator Salvation and Fright Night.
