Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Paul Pogba could be key in any battle for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
Ferdinand believes the Toffees will part ways with Lukaku in July in order to receive the maximum fee possible while allowing the player to chase his dream of playing in the Champions League.
He told BT Sport: “I don’t see him staying because if [his contract] goes down to a year then the price tag goes down.
“I think they’ll cash in this season because he’s made it apparent he wants to leave. His agent doesn’t mess about.
“More importantly he’s a guy who’s best mates with [Paul] Pogba. He’s seeing other friends and other players from the Belgium team go on and win things.
“He wants a step up and he wants to be part of that, he wants to be part of the conversation.”
