Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata is surely doing his new club a lot of justice, and also proved he could silence his doubters in the English premier league after his goal and that of teammate, N’Golo Kante, was enough to put a brewing Leicester City to bay at the King Power stadium on Saturday.
Alvaro Morata nodded in Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross to put Chelsea ahead before half-time while N’Golo Kante , who was facing his former side, Leicester City, refused to celebrate after scoring in the 50th minute out of respect for his former employers.
Morata was always a thorn in the flesh of Leicester City’s captain Wes Morgan, who constantly tried all his best to deny him but his hard-work later paid off, while Leicester city enjoyed a consolation goal from a Jamie Vardy penalty in the 62nd minute.
Some important facts to note after this match include:
-This is the first time Leicester City have lost three of their opening four top-flight fixtures since 1994-95.
-Eden Hazard made his long awaited return from an ankle injury while signing, Davide Zappacosta, was brought in, to help control the ship against Leicester City.
– Chelsea had not won a Premier League away fixture in September in any of the last four seasons.
-Chelsea have now won their last three games in a row.
-The last time Leicester City lost three of their opening four top flight fixtures, they were relegated.
Morata has made a strong start to his time in Chelsea, scoring three goals in his first four outings, having missed a penalty in the Community Shield against Arsenal at the beginning of August.
Antonio Conte was delighted to see Morata score again and praised him for his link-up play .
“It is a good day for the team and for Alvaro,” said Conte in his post-match press conference.
“It is always important for a striker to score. It is important to see he is improving and always more involved in our idea of football.
“That is most important and if he scores then I am very happy.”
Kante, speaking after the match said; “It is always special to play my old team. I had an amazing year here but when I come I try to win,”
“It is always a pleasure to score but I keep my celebration inside because I want to respect my old team.”
Chelsea had to see off a tough late fightback from Leicester, to secure a third consecutive Premier League victory at the King Power Stadium, and at the end Chelsea could have scored more, but should be happy with this win that takes them back into the top four.
