Kaduna Sunday Bomb Blasts: I’m Speechless – Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed shocked and sadness over Zaria, Kaduna blasts that claimed over 48 lives.
Jonathan expressed his grief in Abuja at a special service to commemorate the 2012 Fathers’ Day.
When called upon by the priest to give his remarks, the visibly angry and devastated Jonathan said he received the news of the blasts in the course of the service and was really sad about the development.
He saids: “Particularly today (yesterday), I was quite thrilled about what was going on in the church and when I got the information that while we were here, there were explosions in Kaduna and since I don’t even know the casualty rate and what is happening; I have been quite sad and I didn’t even want to say something.

US Freezes Nigerian Embassy’s Accounts For Money Laundering
Bank of America, M&T Bank and Wells Fargo received directive from the US government to close the accounts of the Nigerian embassy in Washington and its consulate in New York on suspicion of money laundering after traffic on the various accounts raised a red flag.
$3.6 million dollars was said to have entered and left the accounts in under a month, the latest transaction being the withdrawal of $50,000 in hard cash by a top embassy staff.
The decision to freeze the accounts is sequel to intelligence report generated by a panel comprising representatives of the US Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Department of Treasury, unknown to Nigerian embassy officials, to monitor wires and traffic in all the accounts operated by the embassy.

Two explosions have been reported at the Wusasa and Sabon Gari areas of Zaria, Kaduna State. Reports reaching us say an explosion occured near a catholic church in the Wusasa neighbourhood of the city.
Witnesses say security agencies have already cordoned off the area and traffic are being diverted.
Other sources also report hearing another loud bang around the Sabon Gari area of the town close to an Evangelical Church of West Africa.
Another source later said the ECWA church was the target of the attack and that the church building was seriously damaged.
The two explosions, we are told, were followed by sporadic shootings.

Teacher Reports Self to Police After Killing Husband
A teacher in Usi-Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State has hacked her husband to death. It was gathered that the suspect, Mrs. Rafatu Agboola, killed her husband, Akeem Agboola, who was asleep with a machete and reported herself to the police in Usi-Ekiti immediately.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, confirmed the incident. He said the woman was brought to the police headquarters on Wednesday. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, said the police had begun an investigation into the case.

Transgender Pageant Winner ‘Thapelo Makutle’ Murdered in South Africa
A 23 year old South African man who won a Miss Gay pageant last year has been killed.
Thapelo Makutle (pictured above), known as Queen Bling, was found in his room with his throat slit last week Saturday. His friend told police that Thapelo had argued with two heterosexual men the previous day about his sexuality, the two men followed him home, broke down his door and killed him.
The late Makutle was active in the LGBT community in the Kuruman region, and his family and friends are angry that no one has been arrested for his murder despite the fact that the attackers description was given to police.

Over 200 members of the House of Representatives have signed up for the suspension of fuel subsidy probe chairman Farouk Lawan over the bribe-for-clearance scandal.
Members are angry that the scandal has impugned on the integrity of the House and brought personal slight on members.
But Lawan, who got wind of the move, visited Speaker Aminu Tambuwal early yesterday to plead for leniency.
