The House of Representatives yesterday threatened to begin impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan if the 2012 Appropriation Act is not implemented 100 per cent by the time they resume from their annual recess in September. Relying on a motion on the poor implementation of the 2012 budget and that of previous years and citing Order of Privilege, Minority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (ACN, Lagos), pointed out that it was an impeachable offence for a law on the budget to be flouted consistently by the executive. His position was supported by his colleagues though a few dissenting voices objected. The men of the bomb disposal units of the Nigeria Police on Thursday foiled a bomb attack on St. Alloysius Schools, Area 3, Garki, Abuja. A security man, who briefed the Head Teacher of the schools, Sister Philomena Akem, said the item was planted under a mango tree near where pupils buy biscuits and other items after school. According to the security man, a woman who saw the bag became curious and called the attention of the church security personnel to the strange item. He said when the security personnel found the object they in turn called the policemen on duty at the St. Alloysius Catholic Arch Diocese to the bomb. Gunmen Fire at card Players in Kano, Killing Three

Two gunmen riding on a motorbike shot and killed three people playing cards in the Sharada area of Kano city today. A fourth person sustained serious injuries and has been rushed to the hospital. Also, a constabulary police officer narrowly escaped death but sustained gunshot wounds and has also been taken to an unknown hospital, soaked in blood. The Kano State police command spokesperson has officially confirmed the killings, while a security operative in the area said several residents have gone into hiding to avoid falling victim of the crossfire that ensures after such attacks. No group has claimed responsibility of the attack. Armed Robbers Raid Bullion Van in Lagos, cart away N58m, Kill Policeman

Armed robbers, on Tuesday July 17th, raided a bullion van belonging to a first generation bank along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. According to reports, the robbers laid ambush for the bullion van which was coming to Lagos via the Badagry expressway and succeeded in taking all the money in the vehicle (58 million naira). They also killed an escort police officer in the process The Lagos Commissioner of Police confirmed the robbery attack and said the bank did not use the customized bullet-proof bullion van that banks are advised to use in order to reduce the incidence of robbery attacks on bank vehicles. Bomb Discovered and Defused at a Hotel in Ikeja

A Bomb was discovered in a hotel in Ikeja. According to eyewitnesses, a bomb was found in a room at Reliance Hotel located on Emina Crescent off Amore Crescent, off Toyin street, Ikeja. The hotel shares same fence with St Leo Catholic Church and is directly opposite Assemblies of God church. According to hotel sources, three guys slept in the hotel last night and checked out this morning. Housekeeper went to clean the room and discovered the ‘surprise’. The hotel alerted the anti-bomb squad. The streets surrounding the area was condoned off for hours as the anti-bomb squad worked to detonate the bomb.
