A 20-year-old Nigerian, Favour Odozor, has emerged as the youngest with the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) in both Nigeria and South Africa. Mr. Odozor who graduated alongside 15 other trained pilots at the Afrika Union Aviation Academy (AUAA), Mafikeng, South Africa on Saturday was described as the new hope of the African aviation industry. Capt. Allan Roebuck, Director of AUAA, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg that Mr. Odozor completed all the 37 flying procedures in record time. “The academy is proud of this young Nigerian, with the award of licence and certificate to him. Men of the Nigerian Army Quick Response Group have arrested a suspected kidnapper who was taking his victim to their hideout along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and rescued the victim in the process. Surprisingly, the suspect was discovered to be the victim’s relation. The 37-year-old suspect identified as Tony Anene, who was paraded before newsmen, weekend, in Lagos, was alleged to have connived with two others, currently at large, to abduct his uncle, Mr. Dominic Nwaezeapu, apparently over a land dispute. No fewer than 10 people died and several others injured when a commercial bus travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State to Lagos State somersaulted at the Alifekide area of Delta State. Eyewitness account has it that the accident might have been caused by excessive speed as the vehicle appeared very new. The bus loaded at one of the Onitsha motor parks enroute Lagos before it somersaulted at Ali Ifekide, near Agbor. It was gathered that the passengers were trapped inside the bus until a police patrol team arrived. The patrol team was said to have forced the door open and rescued some passengers but about 10 persons had already died. As at the time of filing the report the police and other sympathisers had rushed the injured victims to the hospital while the dead bodies were still at the scene
No fewer than four people were, weekend, feared dead, while three others were injured when a dilapidated building collapsed at Moboreje area of Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State. According to sources, the collapsed building located close to a private secondary school and mosque was said to be in a bad condition until it eventually collapsed. The sources added that the residents were relaxing in front of the building in the evening when the house suddenly collapsed. It was further gathered that only the occupants who had gone to the mosque for the evening prayers escaped the unfortunate incident. Female inmates at the Light of Hope Orphanage describe how the owner of the orphanage allegedly raped them repeatedly. From the outside, the Light of Hope Orphanage in Akute area of Ogun State looks like every other orphange. The facility which was founded in 1996 by Mr. Olatayo Atunde receives donations from multinational companies, non-governmental organisations, and other concerned members of the public. JUST as Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State is about putting behind it the recent killing of six secondary school teachers, including a principal, the local government was again plunged into mourning as many students were, on Saturday, murdered in cold blood by some gunmen suspected to be members of the Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lid’ Awati, also known as Boko Haram. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) says that beginning on Friday, May 31, it will embark on a crusade to save the Christianity in Nigeria from annihilation. To be called “Operation Barbarossa,” MEND said its campaign will comprise bombing of mosques, hajj camps, Islamic institutions, large congregations in Islamic events and assassinations of clerics.” The declaration is contained in a statement said today signed by Jomo Gbomo. Three female undergraduates of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, who were declared missing have been sighted in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates(UAE), PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
