Imo State Parliament To Fix A Common Bride Price For All Indigenes
Citing the increase in the number of the unmarried youths in their communities, the Traditional Parliament in Nigeria’s eastern state of Imo, Owerri, passed its first resolution on the harmonization of bride price in all communities in the state.
The motion, entitled, “Motion on the Harmonization of the Marriage Institution in Imo”, was moved by Eze Duru Okwudor and Eze Obi II of Okwudor in Njaba Local Government Area alongside other traditional rulers.
Okwudor identified high pride price and difficulties involved in the process of traditional marriage as some of the reasons for a change in the system.
He noted that the behaviour of some parents and community leaders on the issue of bride price during marriage was a source of worry to young adults.

A Badagry Customary Court, on Wednesday, dissolved the marriage between Rasheed Lateef, 38, and Toyin Lateef, 28.
Toyin, testifying in a charge of infidelity brought against her by Rasheed, who is seeking the dissolution of their marriage, had told the court that her husband was in the habit of withdrawing while they had sex and depositing his sperm on her stomach in a bid to avoid getting her pregnant.
The couple have two children.
“My husband does not release sperm into my vagina when making love to me; instead he pours it on my stomach,’’ she said. “My husband said he wants only two children and did not want me to be pregnant again.”
She told the court that her husband, whom she claimed lived a reckless life, was in the habit of suspecting her because he had been marrying
9 year old Househelp Burnt with Electric Iron by her Guardian
Reports have it that 9 year old Chinenye Emeka got her buttocks burnt with hot electric pressing iron by herguardian, Mrs. Ifechukwu Akabekwa.
The main story behind the incident, as gathered was this this happened because Chinenye used the moneygiven to her by a philanthropist to pay her school fees without the permission of her guardian, gathered in the post-incident report was that Mrs Akabekwa, of Abazuonu Street in Iyi-Owa Odekpe, Anambra state, maltreated and gave Chinenye a hell for a life and constantly forced her to hawk along the major road of Atani during school hours. And when a stranger tried to help little Chinenye, the mother of three got so mad, she scarred the little girl for life.
Mrs Akabekwa was said to have been arrested by the police.

Nollywood Actress Ngozi Ezeonu Conferred As Ada-Ife In Imo State
Veteran actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, was last Sunday (August 12) conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Ada-Ife (meaning Daughter of Light) by HRM C.F.N Ezerioha III, Obi of Ihiteoweri.
The conferment ceremony took place in Ihiteoweri, Imo State, and it was attended by several of her colleagues and associates. Some of those present at the conferment ceremony were Emeka Amakeze, Queen Nwokoye, Solo Amaco Apete, Emeka Ani, Ngozi Nkebakwa, Chuma Ajoku, Prince Uche, and Amaechi Ukaeje.

Lagos is the 3rd Worst Place To Live On Earth – Report
According to a new report carried out by The Economist Intelligence Unit, Lagos is the 3rd worst place to live on earth. Nigeria’s commercial city placed 138th out of the 140 cities surveyed.
Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is the overall worst city, while Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea came second in the chart of the worst cities to live in the world.
Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire placed 131st; Tehran, Iran came 132; Douala, Cameroon is the 133rd; Tripoli, Libya placed 134th; Karachi, Pakistan came 135th; Algiers, Algeria is 136th while Harare in Zimbabwe placed 137th in the category of the worst cities in the world.
