Taribo
Former Super Eagles defender turned Pastor, Taribo West, has been labelled an age cheat by one of his former employers. Taribo, whose illustrious career saw him playing in at least five countries, was accused of slashing 12 years from his real age. The former Derby County, Plymouth, Inter Milan, and AC Milan player when making a move to Serbian team, Partizan Belgrade, in 2002 after leaving Derby County told club bosses he was 28. However, the former president of Partizan Belgrade, Zarko Zecevic, in an interview with U.K. tabloid, Daily Mail, has accused the former Nigerian defender of lying, saying the defender was actually 40. “He joined us saying he was 28. We only later found out he was 40, but he was still playing well so I don’t regret having him on the team,” Zecevic said. But

Injured Spartak Moscow strike Emmanuel Emenike has fired a broadside at the Nigeria Football Federation and Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi by accusing them of being insensitive to his plight. The South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner with four goals sustained a hamstring injury after scoring two goals to help Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 and set up a final clash with Burkina Faso. The Eagles beat the Stallions 1-0 to win the championship for the third time. Outside of Spain, few places in the world can boast more fervent support of Barcelona and Real Madrid than Iraq. In Iraqi Kurdistan, some 3,5000 miles from the action, locals are obsessed with La Liga’s two biggest teams. When they face each other in El Clasico, bars and coffee houses are segregated between rivals fans and police presence is increased as people celebrate, commiserate and fight long into the night. According to a report in Baghdad newspaper Al Zaman, carried by Spanish newspaper Sport, passion between rival fans spilled over into violence and murder this week. On Monday, a Barcelona supporter in Madain — a city a few miles south of Baghdad — supposedly argued with a Real Madrid-supporting friend in a gaming arcade. The Barca fan then reportedly “slaughtered”

World football governing body FIFA has written to the Nigeria Football Federation over reports that lesbians had been banned from playing football in the National Women’s League. A FIFA spokesman confirmed the letter but emphasised it was a preliminary inquiry,Reuters says. Media reports have widely quoted Nigeria Women’s Football League boss, Dilichukwu Onyedinma, as saying lesbian players would not be allowed to compete. It is a tricky issue for FIFA, however, because homosexuality is illegal under Nigerian law. The Nigeria’s National Assembly recently passed a bill prohibiting same-sex marriage, and it only needs the approval of President Goodluck Jonathan to become law in the country. If that occurs, gatherings of homosexuals or any other support for gay clubs, organisations, unions

Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, said on Monday that he missed Newcastle Ace,Shola Ameobi, at the just concluded 2013 African Cup of Nations , AFCON, in South Africa. “Honestly speaking, I missed Shola Ameobi (at the AFCON). In the game against Venezuela, he had a different presence in the locker room, he came in with this coaching ability and togetherness, when he talks to these boys they listen. This was the first time he was coming,” he said. Arsenal are set to be subject of a world record £1.5 BILLION takeover bid. The Sunday Telegraph says the group will be backed by funds from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and the offer will far exceed the £800 million paid by the Glazers for Manchester United. The intention is to buy out Arsenal’s American owner, Stan Kroenke, whose perceived weak stewardship of the club has also been called into question by frustrated supporter groups. The cash offer, which is more than twice the amount at which Arsenal were valued two years ago, will be for 100 per cent of the club, and if successful would wipe out debts that stand at around £250 million according to the last full year’s financial results. According to a bid source, there would be substantial transfer funds made available

However, in a statement on their website, UEFA said: “Having examined all the documents of the case, the Control and Disciplinary Body decided to reject the protest lodged by Schalke.” Former Chelsea player Drogba, 34, agreed to join Galatasaray on 28 January after ending his short stay with Shenhua amid claims he had not been paid his salary. Shenhua countered that Drogba was in breach of his contract

Moses played for England from Under-16 to U-21 level and was tipped by former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan to be one of England ’s finest. But unfortunately, U-21 boss Stuart Pearce and former England manager Fabio Capello had little or no interest in Moses. “I played all through the age levels for England and when Nigeria first asked, I wanted to concentrate on
