Thirty one persons were killed in Imo State when a tree fell on them. The incident happened at the Ukwu Uko evening market at Umuejinwaoke Umudagu Village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo. About 16 others sustained various injuries during the incident, which was caused by rainstorm on Thursday night. A resident of the community, Nnaemeka Emenyonu, said that the tree fell on the affected persons around 8:00 p.m. He said the tree also destroyed the Village Hall. “The big tree fell suddenly on 31 people, who died at the spot and injured 16 others. Northern elders on Thursday broke their silence on the slamming of state of emergency in three of their states, describing the action of President Goodluck Jonathan as an indirect declaration of war on the Northern part of Nigeria. The President’s action, which took the northern elders by surprise, is coming barely three weeks after Jonathan accepted a roadmap from the NEF on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency in parts of the north. At least 15 persons were killed and over 20 are still missing following yesterday’s violence in Zangan, Kaura Local Government Area of troubled southern Kaduna State.  The story of the new attack by Fulani herdsmen was first carried by SaharaReporters last night. The Nigerian Air Force has named the two officers killed when one of its aircrafts crashed in Niamey, Niger Republic. The Air Force named the officers as Squadron Leader Benjamin Ado and Flying Officer Ayuba Layelmenson. The two officers were part of the Air Force contingent in the African-led International Support Mission in Mali stationed in Niamey, Niger Republic. A security source in Adamawa State has just phoned SaharaReporters that suspected members of the militant Islamist sect, Boko Haram, attacked a church and a market at a town bordering the Republic of Cameroon.
