Last Flight to Abuja is No 2 in West African Cinemas
A few days after staging an impressive premiere at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, Lekki, Lagos, much-talked about movie, Last Flight to Abuja began its cinematic run on an inspiring note as the movie was yesterday, August 7 adjudged the Number 2 film at the West African box office.
The movie which premiered on Friday, August 3 beat blockbusters like Spiderman, Think like a man, Ice Age, Avengers and Madagascar to cling the top spot. It was second only to the high grossing blockbuster, Dark Knight Rises.
The movie was directed and produced by Obi Emelonye, the producer of award-winning flick, Mirror Boy and was sponsored largely by Diamond Bank PLC.
“Great news! Last Flight to Abuja is the number 2 film in West African cinemas; second only to the great Dark Knight Rises and beating Spiderman, Think like a man, Ice Age, Avengers and Madagascar. We thank God and we are grateful to all you folks who have gone to see it in Nigerian cinemas. Thank you everyone for making this happen”.
The official Facebook page of the movie read a few hours after the announcement.
Joy Lilbeno, CEO of Blue Pictures, the distributor of the movie said, ‘this is tremendous, for a movie just in its first week to achieve such a feat shows that it’s a good movie that will go far in the cinemas.”
Also speaking on the rare feat achieved by the movie, an official at Bigsam Media, the Public Relations firm in charge of the publicity of the movie said, “It is a thing of joy that Last Flight to Abuja is attaining such height within its first week at the cinemas. Right from the first time I saw the movie, I knew it will go far, the storyline, the twists around the plot are some of the advantages the movie will have over others”.
