Robbers burgle Ogun Internal Revenue Service, cart away N20m
Barely two weeks after some security gadgets were commissioned by Inspector General of police, Alhaji Moham-med Abubakar in Ogun state, robbers stormed the office of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service and carted away N20 million .
Saturday Vanguard learnt that, the incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday , exactly 2 a.m. when unknown persons were said to have broken through the windows of the Parastatal Building headquarters of the Ogun IRS .
A source hinted Saturday Vanguard that,the robbers who were about five , broke the vaults of the IRS before they took away the whopping cash from the burgled IRS building which is about 100 metres away from the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan and also shared offices with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The source within the IRS who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident ,claiming that the burgled vault contained not less than N20million and expressed surprise why the burglary occurred when the IRS had such a huge amount in its vault.
When contacted, the Ogun State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident, saying that, the police had already arrested the night guards who were on duty when the burglary occurred, adding that the arrested guards were being interrogated.
He said “It is true that some people burgled into the IRS office and carted away some amount of money. We have already swung into action. We have with us the guards who were supposed to be on duty that night. We are questioning and investigating them.
“We cannot confirm the amount of cash stolen from the IRS office but by the time the complainant finish writing his statement, we’ll be able to ascertain the exact amount and deduce some other helpful
“It’s interesting that the office was burgled and the guards on duty were neither attacked nor tied down by the burglers. We’ll get to the root of the incident and all the culprits will be brought to book.”
